Jonathan here. Thank you to all of you who jumped in for God's'Dog: Warrior! We were funded in 5 hours, and have now reached our very first stretch goal! This means that we will add the poster designed by Cord Nielson to your book. Cord is the artist who illustrated book one, and his amazing cover shows our mysterious stranger finally coming into his own and becoming a trained fighter.
You might wonder how our very ragged dog headed friend came to look so slick. Well, like some Jordan Peterson "clean your room" advice, finding that inner discipline sometimes starts with a bit of grooming. Who would have thought that even the smallest detail of a story my brother Matthieu and I wrote 15 years ago now would become so relevant today.
Adding A Prize For All of You
Because this is book 2 of the series, to all those who back any physical tier, we will add a digital download of book 1, God's'Dog: Monster. I just feel like I don't want anyone to feel left out, and so by getting book 2, you will get the full story. For this reason, I am retiring the Double Ebook tier, and for those who already pledged at that tier, stay tuned for a message to see how we can make it up to you.
So tell your friends, by backing book 2, they will get the whole story!
Next Stretch Goal in view
Our first book was published on our own, and because I have started a publishing company to streamline all the details of making these books, for the next stretch goal we will add a Symbolic World Press sticker. It has the wonderful logo designed by Heather Pollington, who also illustrated the Snow White story. As you all know, we have a lot of plans for Symbolic World press, and your support of these kickstarters is helping fund several books which are coming in the future, including Jack and the Fallen Giants, Rapunzel and the Evil Queen as well as a few surprises we will announce in time.
If you haven't supported this yet, or know someone who would be interested in this project, help us get to our 100k stretch goal! We want to tell these stories.
Our Two Artists
As you know, Warrior is illustrated by two people, one is Matt Sheean, who is illustrating the narrative part of the book, and is giving us this European naturalist style. There is also a contemporary feel to his line work and compositions.
Matt Sheean has worked on several comic titles for Image, Dark Horse and is known for his collaboration with Malachi Ward. His work is often surreal and exploratory.
The other artist is Jesse White, who is producing rich adventure style comics like the ones we loved when we were kids, and these are telling the mythological backdrop to the main story, going into ancient lore about the Leviathan, Giants and much more.
Jesse has worked on several independent comics, including the satirical "Deus Vult", in which a crusading knight saves a cat-girl from demonic powers.
What fascinates me about these styles is to what extent they are complimentary, Matt Sheean, with his clear lines and simple outlines, airy spaces with attentive detail, is such an amazing contrast to Jesse's bold brushed inks, his hatching and textured approach. We hope that it will increase the sense of moving between the present and past as you all read the story.
In our next update, I will tell you a bit more about the two colorist we have chosen Felipe Cartin and Matt Crotts.
Snow White Secret Mission
Starting the God's'Dog kickstarter has brought out a few people telling us that they have not received the Snow White book from our last Kickstarter yet. Although I had heard that for technical reason, there were a few stragglers, I now received enough messages to go on a quest to figure out what was going on. Thanks to all of you who reached out. You might be surprised to find out that I was finally pushed to fly to Texas, where I am writing this update now! Our publishing company is here, and I needed to get to the bottom of what was going on for the sake of our backers. Although over 90% of people received their books more than a month ago, the idea that some people had not yet received anything is something that really got under my skin. With the help of several amazing people here, and after a bit of an adventure, I was able to regain control of what was happening, and so for the few puzzled Snow White backers: we love you guys, and expect news very soon.
